Data Engineer - BSTD at South African Reserve Bank (SARB)

Brief Description:

Join us at the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) as a Data Engineer in the Business Solutions and Technology Department (BSTD). In this pivotal role, you will construct, maintain, and enhance business intelligence (BI) data pipelines, empowering Data as a Service (DaaS) across the SARB. Your contributions will directly support and enable optimized data-driven decision-making throughout the bank.

Detailed Description:

As a Data Engineer, you will:

• Develop and enforce data service standards and frameworks to promote best practices in data operations, including development, operations, machine learning, and more.
• Manage BI data pipelines and flows for specific analytics implementations, ensuring the alignment with SARB's strategic goals.
• Translate client data needs into robust, scalable, and efficient data solutions, continuously improving and innovating our data services.
• Monitor, optimize, and maintain domain-specific data pipelines to guarantee data availability and performance.
• Implement new engineering features and data sharing technologies, adhering to and influencing SARB's BI and BSTD strategies.
• Enhance the performance of BI data marts and warehouses using advanced data engineering techniques.
• Lead compliance initiatives, risk management, and security standards related to BI data handling and services.
• Collaborate proactively with diverse teams within SARB to develop impactful analytic solutions and provide strategic data service insights to management.
• Stay current with industry trends and lead the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and practices to continually elevate our data services.
• Share knowledge and mentorship with peers across various technical domains within SARB.

Job Requirements:

The ideal candidate should possess:

• A Bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Management, Technology, or a related field.
• Five to eight years of experience in developing, maintaining, and optimizing data pipelines and services.
• Expertise in coding with object-oriented languages like Python, Scala, or Java.
• Experience working with various database technologies and distributed computing frameworks.
• A demonstrable track record of managing data across structured, semi-structured, and unstructured environments.
• Advanced skills in project scoping, data operations, quality assurance, IT innovation, and more as detailed in the additional requirements.
