At the CERT Cyber Mission Readiness (CMR) directorate, we strengthen the cybersecurity defenses of the U.S. and its partners through innovative training, exercises, and technology development. Positioned within CMR, the Operational Readiness and Evaluation (ORE) team amplifies the cyber defense capabilities of our national workforce by assessing and enhancing operational preparedness through cutting-edge simulations and strategies.
Position Summary
As a Data Engineer based in Arlington, VA, Pittsburgh, PA, or remotely, you will play a crucial role in constructing sophisticated data architectures and analytic frameworks that empower complex analyses and operational missions. You will work closely with Mission Partners to refine data engineering capacities, contributing decisively to the development of new roles and specialized training programs for government entities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute robust data solutions, maintaining the integrity and security of data architectures.
- Engage directly with Mission Partners for the enhancement of data engineering and analytical capabilities.
- Design customized training and simulation programs to bolster the skills of team members and affiliated groups.
- Ensure data systems are compliant with the latest cybersecurity standards and controls exclusive to the defense sector.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- A BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline with a minimum of eight (8) years’ experience; OR
- An MS in the same fields with five (5) years of experience; OR
- A PhD in the same fields with two (2) years of experience.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%, possibly including international destinations, to support SEI’s broad mission.
- Eligibility to pass a background check and obtain a Department of Defense security clearance.
Preferred Skills
- Advanced proficiency in programming languages like Python, Java, and SQL.
- Extensive experience in data management tools including Elasticsearch, Apache NiFi, and Kafka.
- Profound knowledge of data science and machine learning techniques.
- Strong communicative abilities for effective collaboration with government partners and team members.
