The Opportunity: Data Modeler
We are seeking a Data Modeler to join the Enterprise Data & Analytics team at Popular. This role is essential in designing and maintaining data models that align with our financial data management and analytics goals. You will collaborate closely with data architects, data analysts, and various business units to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and compliance with financial regulations.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design of data structures across data and analytics initiatives.
- Create and enhance data models to support financial data management, analytics, and reporting.
- Work with senior data architects, data scientists, data analysts, and business units to understand data relationships, flows, and requirements.
- Develop comprehensive data models including conceptual, logical, and physical models, along with data flows and source-to-target mappings.
- Iteratively develop data models in an agile environment with continuous feedback and improvement.
- Collaborate with Senior Data Modelers to align with the overall data strategy.
- Ensure smooth integration of data models into data warehousing and analytics solutions.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, data governance policies, and industry standards.
- Manage data cleaning requirements, data security needs, and implement security solutions.
- Optimize data models for integrity, accuracy, and consistency.
- Communicate data models and design concepts to scrum teams, business teams, and other stakeholders.
- Lead the adoption of cutting-edge data modeling tools and methodologies.
- Define and enforce data standards including naming conventions and data usage.
- Document data models, data dictionaries, data lineage, and metadata in collaboration with business partners and data stewards.
- Contribute to data governance efforts to ensure alignment with established policies and standards.
- Train and mentor team members on best practices in data modeling.
Qualifications
To qualify for this role, you should have:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in data modeling and data architecture, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of data architecture, data governance principles, and practices.
- Solid experience in data warehousing, BI & Analytics, and designing data products.
- Proven expertise in agile data modeling approaches.
- 10+ years of experience in conceptual, logical, and physical modeling, and various data modeling patterns such as 3NF, Data Vault 2.0, and dimensional modeling.
- Experience in data modeling tools like PowerDesigner, IBM Data Architect, Oracle Designer, or Erwin.
- Strong Financial and Insurance industry domain knowledge.
- Expertise in data governance and data management tools like Alation, Collibra, Informatica, IBM IGC.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, and analytical data stores like Data Lake, Snowflake, Redshift, Hadoop.
- Expertise in relational databases, structured and unstructured data formats, and data integration tools like Informatica, Talend, CloverDX, DBT.
- Proficiency in reporting tools such as Tableau and PowerBI.
- Strong understanding of data privacy laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
