Mechanical Hardware Engineers at Latitude AI

Mechanical Hardware Engineers at Latitude AI lead the integration of sensors and computers for next-generation automated driving systems. This role includes leading sensor placement visibility studies, developing integration requirements, designing prototypes, executing tests, and collaborating on production vehicle designs. Our team works cross-functionally across Latitude AI and the broader Ford organization to drive innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional work to establish hardware integration requirements and designs for automated driving systems.
  • Collaborate with external partners on design and integration of automated driving hardware on production vehicle platforms.
  • Develop and execute verification and validation methods for new robotics systems.
  • Perform first-principles proof of concept analysis and testing.
  • Lead on-road and laboratory testing to validate advanced concepts.
  • Analyze test results to assess performance and production risk.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, and 4+ years of relevant experience (or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or PhD).
  • Experience with rapid prototyping of mechanical structures for test and development fleets. Proficiency with CAD software (CATIA/NX/Others) and FEA tools (ANSYS/Abaqus).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods such as machining, welding, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, and 3D printing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills using engineering and mathematics fundamentals.
  • Experience developing and validating hardware designs through first-principles analysis.
  • Proven experience in authoring hardware verification methods and conducting laboratory testing.
  • Proficiency in scientific computing tools (MATLAB, Python) for analyzing mechanical test data.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience scaling products from low to high volume manufacturing.
  • Expertise in thermal and vibration analysis.
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
