Welcome to a unique opportunity to join the Plaxis team, a part of Seequent, the Bentley Subsurface Company. We are seeking a talented Research Engineer to be based in the stunning city of Delft, Netherlands. This position offers close interaction with Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and the chance to work with globally recognized software and services in geotechnical engineering under the PLAXIS brand.

Position Summary

As a member of the Plaxis research team, you will provide domain expertise for continuous software development, implement and validate computational features for geotechnical engineering, and collaborate with a diverse group of professionals including quality, software, and support engineers. You will also engage with external research teams across various universities and institutes, contributing to solutions that address complex geotechnical challenges. Your role will ensure the geotechnical analysis functionalities are reliable from the research discovery phase through to final production.

Essential Functions

  • Research, validate, and document advanced soil/rock geotechnical features or tools.
  • Maintain and improve test coverage of geotechnical features.
  • Formulate and document benchmarks and case studies.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of product feature specifications.
  • Assist the Support team in replying to complex technical user queries.
  • Contribute to internal and external knowledge and expertise sharing activities.
  • (Co)Author technical papers for conference proceedings or international journal publications.
  • Engage with a network of experts (academic or professional) for collaborative work.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by management.

What You Bring to The Team

  • An academic background (MSc or higher) in Geotechnical engineering or a related field.
  • A clear research interest in numerical modeling with a passion for applying this in engineering practice.
  • A problem-solving mentality and growth mindset.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills in a cross-functional and multi-cultural environment.
  • Proficiency in English (written and verbal).
  • Practical experience using PLAXIS or other geotechnical modeling packages is a plus.
  • Experience in engineering design is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.
