We at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan are seeking a dedicated and experienced Principal Data Engineer to construct robust data pipelines and tools essential for data-driven decision-making across our enterprise. This role requires a keen analytical mindset, deep curiosity about business contexts, and proficiency in designing data and analytics solutions that fuel business intelligence, AI, and ML applications.

Key Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

  • Design, build, and deploy comprehensive data solutions that are heavily relied upon within the business.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, enhancing data solution understanding among users.
  • Develop code, scripts, and data pipelines capitalizing both structured and unstructured data from diverse sources.
  • Focus on software quality by developing a variety of tests and ensuring adherence to data governance and security standards.
  • Work collaboratively in an agile environment to deliver project outcomes effectively.
  • Mentor and nurture data engineering talent within the team.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics or closely related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • A minimum of 6 years’ experience in data engineering, with at least 2 years in a project leadership role.
  • Experience in the insurance industry and certifications in relevant fields are highly preferred.

Required Qualifications:

  • Robust knowledge of SQL, Oracle, ETL, DevOps, and Big Data platforms like Hadoop and DataBricks.
  • Proficiency in BI tools such as PowerBI and familiarity with cloud data platforms like Snowflake.
  • Experience with R, Python, and statistical/data analysis techniques.
  • Strong project management skills and a proven track record in an agile work environment.

Salary and Benefits:
