What We Are Looking For
The Principal Data Scientist will be an integral part of Stem’s Wholesale Market Optimization & Controls team. You will develop state-of-the-art wholesale energy market products and conduct research in time series forecasting, building AI/ML capabilities at Stem. Collaborating closely with the Head of Controls and Optimization and other cross-functional team members, you will drive the technical direction of the forecasting capabilities on the Athena platform.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Market Analysts and Product Owners to create technical market entry roadmaps
- Design, develop, and launch new product features for energy assets
- Support real-time monitoring and performance analytics development using Stem’s platform
- Analyze complex operational software to understand failure modes
- Develop dashboards using Python, Jupyter, Kibana, and Tableau
- Create automated alerting solutions to detect operational performance issues
- Conduct R&D in time series forecasting, including advanced feature engineering and model development
- Collaborate with business development and product management to evaluate new market capabilities
- Work with other data scientists to scale and improve forecasting capabilities
- Participate in agile development processes and maintain high standards for automation and transparency
- Foster a strong technical culture with high-quality implementations and effective communication
Required Experience
- 5+ years of experience in building industry-leading software and data science products
- Prior experience in model development and time series forecasting
- Experience in delivering production-grade software in a test-driven environment
- Knowledge of agile practices
- Expert proficiency in Python and data science libraries such as numpy and pandas
Desired Technical Experience
- Solar generation forecasting and price forecasting
- Experience in the energy domain, including wholesale markets and solar + storage applications
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and microservices architecture
- Experience with deep neural networks and tree-based models used in time series forecasting
- Proficiency with cloud technologies, preferably AWS
- Test-driven development experience including Unit tests, CITs, and SITs
- Proficient in using JIRA and Confluence
- Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, CircleCI, TravisCI, Argo CD
- Expertise in ML libraries such as scikit-learn and keras
