Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, other relevant Engineering field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 15 years of experience as a Software Engineering leader in ML Infrastructure, ML, or AI for products, or related fields.
• Experience with large-scale machine learning systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with stakeholder management, translating needs into technical requirements.
• Proven track record in developing and innovating technology at scale, with a passion for cross-platform shared code.
• Deep understanding of GenAI model development, from pre-training to product fine-tuning, and high-quality data definition for specific use cases.
• Strong grasp of ML systems and infrastructure for production, with the technical know-how to communicate effectively with customers and engineers.
• Ability to offer detailed, technical guidance while maintaining a big picture strategy, fostering effective product delivery, and streamlined data management.

Your Role

In this critical role, you will provide strategic and technical leadership in acquiring high-quality data for training GenAI models. You will focus on designing and developing systems for various stages of GenAI data – from pre-training, SFT/RLHF, to production data flywheel optimization. Collaboration with Google DeepMind, Research, and other infrastructure teams, along with cross-functional product teams, is essential.

Compensation

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $278,000-$399,000, plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Our salary ranges are based on role, level, and location, and reflect minimum and maximum target salaries across all US locations. Your specific salary within this range will be discussed with your recruiter, considering your skills, experience, and education. Please note, the listed compensation details are base salary only and exclude bonus, equity, or benefits.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical initiatives for sourcing and generating data at different model development stages, creating a data flywheel from foundational models to products.
• Collaborate with partners from Google DeepMind, Google Research, product areas like Ads, Search, YouTube, Cloud, and other infrastructure teams to develop joint roadmaps and drive results.
• Define quality/value attributes for data assets working with cross-functional teams including Data Science, Data Operations, and Product Management.
• Mentor and train other Technical Leads, keeping the team updated with the latest industry advances to prioritize technical innovations accordingly.
