Are you a passionate Geotechnical Engineer looking for a new challenge? Bentley Systems' Plaxis team is looking for a Research Engineer to join our dynamic and innovative team in Delft, Netherlands. Our team specializes in advancing software solutions for geotechnical engineering, globally recognized under the PLAXIS brand.

Position Summary

As a Research Engineer with the Plaxis team, you'll work from our beautiful Delft office, closely collaborating with the esteemed Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). You will play an integral role in driving the development of innovative software and services designed to tackle complex geotechnical engineering challenges.

Your primary responsibilities will include providing domain expertise in both short- and long-term software development projects, validating computational features, and ensuring the delivery of reliable, meaningful solutions. You will be part of a cohesive, supportive team comprising quality, software, and support engineers, as well as collaborating with external research teams from leading universities and institutes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, validate, and document advanced soil/rock geotechnical features or tools
  • Maintain and improve test coverage of geotechnical features
  • Formulate and document benchmarks and case studies
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of product feature specifications
  • Assist the Support team in replying to complex technical user queries
  • Contribute to internal and external activities for knowledge and expertise sharing
  • (Co)Author technical papers either for conference proceedings or international journal publication
  • Engage with a network of experts (academic or professional) for collaboration
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned by management

Qualifications and Skills

  • MSc or higher in Geotechnical Engineering or related field
  • Strong research interest in numerical modelling with a practical drive to apply this in engineering
  • Problem-solving mentality and a growth mindset
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills in a cross-functional, multicultural environment
  • Proficient in English (written and verbal)
  • Experience with PLAXIS or other geotechnical modelling packages is a plus
  • Experience in engineering design is an advantage
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
