ArcelorMittal Global R&D is seeking a dedicated Research Engineer to enhance sustainable industrial practices at our research center in Esch/Alzette, Luxembourg. This role involves contributing to ambitious projects that drive ArcelorMittal’s transition towards a sustainable and carbon-free future.

Key Responsibilities

As a Research Engineer in Sustainability, you will:

  • Lead or participate in local and global R&D projects focused on sustainability, efficient resource use, decarbonization, energy recovery, and circular economy.
  • Collaborate with our global teams in Brazil, Spain, and France on sustainability strategies, project management, and disseminating results.
  • Identify funding opportunities, develop partnerships, and submit proposals to advance our sustainability ambitions.
  • Stay attuned to business needs and environmental trends, and foster strong relationships with the local R&D community.
  • Support the rapid deployment of innovative and sustainable production technologies at our plants.

Your Profile

We're looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental topics, preferably in a manufacturing industry, with project management experience.
  • Knowledge of carbon-free industrial solutions, energy recovery solutions, and sustainable pollution reduction methods.
  • Experience in modeling, simulation of industrial processes, energy flow analysis, and circular economy initiatives.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C#, Matlab, R, VBA, etc.
  • Understanding of environmental engineering software including CAD, mapping and remote sensing software, hydrology, and hydraulics modeling programs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, team spirit, and effective networking skills.

Job Requirements

Successful candidates should have:

  • A Master’s degree or PhD in Environmental Technologies and Engineering or a related field. Alternatively, a degree in a numerate science or engineering with a strong track record in environmental subjects.
  • Basic knowledge of environmental standards; familiarity with CFD is a plus.
  • Fluency in English and French; Spanish and/or Portuguese is considered an asset.
