About the Advanced Technology Group (ATG)

The Advanced Technology Group (ATG) serves as Dolby's research division, dedicated to pioneering technological innovations that drive the company's growth. Job Summary

At Dolby Laboratories, our mission is to enhance the human visual experience through cutting-edge technologies. We focus on understanding the interplay between science, art, and engineering to improve perceived video and image quality. This internship will advance our knowledge of the human visual system and visual processing in the context of generative AI image and video synthesis techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design psycho-visual experiments to explore aspects of visual perception
  • Develop efficient, bug-free, and well-documented software
  • Conduct subjective experiments to validate human perception attributes
  • Analyze results and perform statistical analysis
  • Document and present research findings

Qualifications

  • PhD candidate in Imaging or Color Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Quick prototyping skills and strong critical thinking abilities
  • Understanding of human perception principles
  • Experience designing psycho-visual experiments
  • Knowledge of display calibration
  • Proficiency in Matlab and/or Python (TensorFlow/PyTorch) for image/video processing
  • Experience with visual quality metrics, data analysis, and statistical modeling (preferred)
  • Familiarity with generative AI methods such as Midjourney, Sora, DALL·E (preferred)
  • Proven track record of writing technical reports and published papers (preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative team ethic

Eligibility

Applicants must be working towards a PhD in Imaging or Color Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Recent graduates within 6 months of graduation are also eligible. The internship requires full-time availability (Monday – Friday) from September 2024 to December 2024.

Monday, September 23, 2024 (this date is non-negotiable)

Compensation

The San Francisco/Bay Area base hourly range for this internship position is $44-57/hr, with variations depending on the location. Hourly rates are determined by role, level, and location, taking into account job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter will provide more details about the specific hourly range and additional benefits during the hiring process.
