About the Staff Engineer, Data Engineering Role We are currently looking to hire a Staff Engineer to assist in the development of Varo's Data Platform. Our Data Engineering team works closely with the product, data science, and machine learning teams to design, build, and scale large-impact datasets that enhance analytics and experimentation. As a Staff Data Engineer, your contribution will involve helping to shape the vision for data architecture and ensure data quality across the company's various verticals. What you will be doing - Design, build, and maintain data pipelines to process data into and out of Varo's Data Lake - Work with AWS big data technologies such as EMR, Glue, S3, EKS, Lambda, Athena, RDS - Develop and maintain the data strategy for Varo, particularly capabilities and control mechanisms that support the company's responsibilities as a national bank. - Provide technical leadership in areas of data systems development, data ingestion, data curation, data storage, high-throughput data processing and analytics. - Collaborate with business partners on requirement clarification and results. - Participate in designing and enforcing data security & access control policies - Develop controls for a resilient data ingestion process - Support application data integration design and build efforts, including real-time capabilities. - Conduct code reviews as per team processes and standards Your expertise - A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering or a related field, or relevant work experience - 6-8 years of experience in data modeling, designing data pipelines, maintaining a data lake, and data warehousing. - Programming experience of 6+ years in Python (Java, Kotlin, C, C++ can also be considered). - 6+ years of working experience in AWS Big Data/Hadoop Ecosystem like EMR, Glue, and Athena. - Experience with other AWS components like Cloudwatch, EKS, KMS, Lambdas, S3 would be highly beneficial. - Experience with downstream consumption patterns (reports, dashboards) is a plus. - Experience in Hadoop, HDFS, Hive, Presto, REST/SOAP API, Spark2, Airflow would be an asset.
