Job Description

Our Data Engineering team, working with vast datasets across all our many brands, covers the entire scope of Nine. We create data products for Nine which enhance customer experiences, inform strategy, and drive action.

We're seeking a senior engineer to join our expanding team with a focus on integrating third-party platforms into our video-on-demand product and our data warehouse. Your role will be the planning and designing data solutions within our Google Cloud environment and you will primarily be responsible for delivering a range of data collection pipelines and transforming that data into insights for our internal customers.

We use the latest cloud technologies and manage a petabyte-scale data platform. Our tech stack includes GCP BigQuery, Apache Airflow, Beam, and Kafka among multiple managed services on Google Cloud and AWS.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop processes to ETL data from diverse data sources to a centralized data warehouse in a hybrid tech stack environment of cloud-based technologies
  • End to end automation of data exchange developed using best practice data governance and utilizing various API frameworks and scripting languages
  • Work with application teams to implement data collection frameworks
  • Contribute to the tech design and vision for the data platform
  • Investigate new tools, construct POCs, productize and launch new tools and frameworks
  • Mentor engineers to raise capability and productivity across the team while promoting adoption of best practices
  • Enhance our observability, monitoring, and alerting
  • Manage and work with multiple stakeholders
  • Understand and enforce best practices for data security and privacy protection.

Qualifications

What we would like to see on your resume:

  • Strong knowledge of ETL data transformations and robust SQL experience
  • Fluency in programming languages (e.g., python, GoLang, JavaScript), capable of reviewing code and providing feedback. Python is our primary weapon of choice.
  • Experience in building data products and services at scale.
  • Experience in manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, low-latency data from varying sources - Kafka and Dataflow especially.
  • Cloud experience, GCP preferred
  • Experience in cloud deployment using a CI/CD solution like Cloud Build or Concourse
  • Experience in deploying cloud infrastructure as code (IaC) with Terraform or similar
  • Familiarity with Airflow is a big plus, as are data processing frameworks like Beam or PySpark

In addition to the above, the following would be highly desirable but not essential:

  • Experience in digital media
  • Experience with a customer data platform
  • Basic knowledge of web analytics and/or marketing tags
  • Web development experience - JavaScript, TypeScript, Node, and Jest
  • Knowledge of visualization tools, like Tableau
  • Familiarity with Agile practices, Bitbucket, and JIRA
