About the Data Science Team:
The Data Science team enables Thumbtack to use data to guide business decisions. We partner with teams across the company to solve the most analytically challenging problems - from deciding how we set prices across almost a thousand service categories to evaluating the effects of a new business model on company performance and identifying preliminary predictors of high-quality customers. We are a close-knit, intellectually intrigued team committed to improving Thumbtack and each other.
About the Role:
Data Scientists are empowered early at Thumbtack to utilize their analytical thinking, interpersonal, and technical skills to make positive differences at the company. As Data Scientists, we pair with product teams to support new product launches, study the economics of our vast, dynamic marketplace, and inform strategy. You'll be the go-to person for all the analytical needs of a team of engineers, designers, and product/marketing managers - enabling the team and Thumbtack to create the best products as swiftly as possible.
Responsibilities:
- Propose and conduct quantitative research into critical user behaviors, product flows, and business trends.
- Design and analyze experiments and other tests for casual inferences.
- Partner with product managers, engineers, etc., to assist in new feature scoping.
- Define and monitor key metrics; investigate changes in metrics and suggest next steps.
- Develop deep understanding of specific topic areas.
- Maintain accessible data through intelligible table design.
- Collaborate with, mentor, and help recruit team members.
Requirements:
- Four or more years of experience in data science, analytics or economics
- Experience managing stakeholders with competing priorities in fields like product management, design, engineering and marketing
- Experience scoping, analyzing, and communicating results of experiments
- Expertise in SQL
- Strong communication skills and ability to develop effective relationships with cross-functional teams and leadership
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in a technical field like statistics, engineering, analytics, mathematics, computer science, operations research, economics
Bonus if you have:
- A healthy combination of holistic thinking, thriving in ambiguity, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the capacity to instruct others
- Experience working on a two-sided marketplace
- Proficiency in Python or R
