Vir Biotechnology is on the hunt for a seasoned Senior Machine Learning Scientist who will report to our Senior Director of Machine Learning. You will have a vital role in the development and application of advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms that result in innovative solutions in the biotechnology field. You will work alongside research scientists, bioinformatics professionals, and software engineers to tackle complicated problems in areas such as genomics, diagnostics, and antibody and small molecule drug discovery. Responsibilities and learning opportunities include: 1. Collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to set project goals, designing experiments, and translating biological queries into computational problems. 2. Keeping up with the latest advancements in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and computational biology, and incorporating applicable techniques into our research pipeline. 3. Maintaining a high standard of software best practices, comprising appropriate testing, code review, and version management (Github). 4. Contributing to the compilation of scientific publications, patents, and presentations, showcasing our research achievements and discoveries. 5. Working in a fast-paced team atmosphere, meeting deadlines, and prioritizing work from multiple projects. Qualifications and experience include: 1. A Ph.D. or M.S. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Physics, Statistics, or another related field, with a focus on machine learning and artificial intelligence. 2. 2+ years of experience in a data science environment. 3. Proof of independent analytical ability, creativity, and high productivity through previous work experience, projects, awards, and publications. 4. Programming skills in Python, R, or other relevant languages. Familiarity with a second programming language. 5. Expertise in multiple machine learning frameworks and libraries, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn. 6. Familiarity with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. 7. Experience with biological data analysis and domain knowledge in biotechnology. 8. This role is open to remote employees.
