The Community You Will Join: We are seeking a Staff Data Scientist to become part of the Marketplace data science team. Our goal is to establish a marketplace that optimizes welfare and balances the needs of guests and hosts. We strive to achieve this by formulating cancellation and fee policies, developing modalities for personalized pricing and insights for hosts, and improving overall marketplace intelligence for better matching of hosts and guests. The Difference You Will Make: We are looking for a veteran data scientist focusing on designing our marketplace cancellation system. A Typical Day: You will design the cancellation policy system for our hosts and guests, develop causative and machine learning models, and establish frameworks and conduct experiments to balance booking, cancellation, customer service tickets, and many other variables. Your Expertise: A candidate should have more than 8 years of industry experience in a quantitative analysis role, a background in economics, statistics, and experimentation, or has acquired deep knowledge in this area. The understanding of the best practices in machine learning lifecycle (e.g., training/serving, feature engineering, feature/model selection, labeling, A/B testing), ability to clearly communicate with cross-functional partners, translate complex findings into a compelling story, create technical impactful roadmaps for the business and ensure seamless execution, and fluency in Python and SQL with experience in Tensorflow, PyTorch, Airflow, and data warehouse. Preferred Expertise: Applicants with a Ph.D. in Economics or a related field and experience in cancellation policy design are preferred. Your Location: This position is eligible for US Remote work. You may occasionally have to work at an Airbnb office or attend off-sites, as agreed upon with your manager. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonuses, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits. Pay Range $185,000 - $245,000 USD
