About the role
In 2023, Cloudflare is reigniting its efforts to implement acceleration and machine learning, and our HW systems team is seeking senior technical engineers with a robust understanding of deep learning, end-to-end ML workloads and frameworks, as well as experience with hardware accelerator and processor architectures (GPUs, CPUs w/AI features, ASICs). This is an exciting opportunity with real-world impact, where you'll have the chance to develop and deploy hardware accelerators on our data center platform.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate, design, and deploy cutting edge acceleration solutions for our growing services
- Lead the design of scalable AI infrastructure for Cloudflare's internal machine learning platform and optimize for peak performance
- Cooperate with product/data science teams to identify customer use cases and translate workloads into technical design and hardware requirements (architecture definition, hardware selection, performance tuning)
- Engage with hardware vendors to find hardware solutions that best suit the platform's needs
- Define the strategy and long term roadmap to exhibit the value proposition of AI/ML workloads for the edge
- Interact with AI leaders across the industry and influence design based on open industry standards
Qualifications
- A Masters or equivalent experience in Computer Architecture, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 12 years of relevant experience
- Has exhibited technical leadership on strategic company-wide projects with experience in computer architecture (GPU, CPU w/AI. acceleration) and the ML software ecosystem. Experience with programming models is a plus
- A robust technical foundation and an in-depth understanding of cloud technologies, DL/ML workloads in the industry, frameworks (Tensorflow/Pytorch), and container tools
- Ability to operate in a continuously changing, ambiguous environment and bridge the software/hardware divide
- Proven industry-wide impact. Proactively created formal networks involving coordination with internal and external technical leaders and has tangible proof points (patents, papers, conference contributions, contributions to open source software or hardware, and/or sitting on a standards committee or board, etc.) demonstrating industry-wide influence as an influential spokesperson for the organization
- Must be able to work collaboratively, has demonstrated ability to function effectively in cross-functional teams, sound technical judgement and is capable of fostering positive working relationships
- Mentorship minded: seeks to instruct team members, provides technical advice, and is committed to continuous learning
Compensation
Depending on the location of the work, compensation may vary.
- For hires based in Colorado and Washington: The estimated annual salary is between $168,000 - $248,000.
- For hires based in New York City and California (excluding Bay Area): The estimated annual salary is between $187,000 - $281,000.
- For hires based in the Bay Area: The estimated annual salary is between $196,000 - $286,000.
