Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Analyst to support the Ministry of Health’s National Malaria Elimination Program (NMEP) in analyzing data for the 2024 Malaria Indicator Survey (MIS). The survey aims to assess the progress towards achieving the targets set in the national malaria elimination strategic plan.

Assignment Objectives

  • To clean the data and conduct preliminary analysis.
  • To analyze and interpret the data according to the survey’s research questions and objectives.
  • To produce tables and figures for the 2024 MIS report, consistent with previous reports and the Roll Back Malaria (RBM) toolkit.
  • To produce the full 2024 MIS report based on the findings.

Scope of Work

Literature Review: Review malaria literature on Zambia to understand the context.

Quantitative Data Analysis: Using Stata and R, perform quantitative data analysis to generate information on the malaria situation in Zambia, including household characteristics, coverage of key interventions, and malaria prevalence.

Preliminary Report: Produce a preliminary report containing tables and graphs for review by the NMEP.

Final Report: Based on feedback, produce the full 2024 MIS report.

Deliverables

  • Data analysis plan in the form of an inception report (not more than 15 pages).
  • Clean dataset exported as a CSV file.
  • Updated data analysis scripts in Stata and R.
  • Draft report with tables and figures, the finalized report, and a slide deck of results using PowerPoint.

Assignment Duration

This is a short-term consultancy not exceeding six months.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, epidemiology, public health, or a related field with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with MIS, Demographic Health Surveys, or large datasets.
  • Proficiency in using statistical software, particularly Stata and R.
  • Strong quantitative data analysis, modeling, and interpretation skills.
  • Ability to plan work, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively with a team.
  • Excellent professional English writing skills.
  • Experience in research publications in peer-reviewed academic journals.
