The Computational Biology group at AstraZeneca in Barcelona is expanding. We are seeking to appoint new members at various levels, including Senior Scientist and Associate Director, to enhance our impactful cancer research projects within the Oncology Data Science department.

About the Role

As an Associate Director of Machine Learning & Computational Biology, you will play a central role in modelling multi-omic data to advance our understanding of biological mechanisms influencing treatment responses. This pivotal role involves leading the development and application of AI/ML strategies to analyze a diverse set of data sources ranging from in vitro to clinical. You will oversee the execution of these strategies to uncover novel insights that inform drug combination and patient selection strategies, target discovery, and our understanding of tumour-immune co-evolution.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Develop and lead AI/ML computational strategies to analyze multimodal data.
  • Collaborate with leaders across various departments to integrate ML/AI approaches into a cohesive translational data science strategy.
  • Apply your expertise in cancer biology and drug discovery to generate actionable insights that influence the development of innovative cancer treatments.
  • Build and maintain effective collaborations with both industry and academic institutions to publish impactful research and develop intellectual property.

Who You Are

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A PhD in a relevant field such as applied ML/AI in cancer biology or computational/systems oncology.
  • Significant experience in AI/ML methods, particularly in a leadership role for Associate Director level or committed involvement in driving projects for Senior Scientist level.
  • Proficiency in R and/or Python in a Unix environment, with experience in high-performance computing settings.
  • Excellent publication records and well-established connections within bioinformatics and oncology communities (desirable).
