Overview

Join Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) as a Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst. This role is part of the Enterprise Applications group within the Applications Development division in the Information Technology Services Directorate at ORNL.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support ORNL’s Business Intelligence and data warehouse activities, encompassing various corporate data areas, primarily utilizing Microsoft and SAP technologies.
  • Develop and maintain corporate reports and dashboards using Power BI, Microsoft 365, and Azure reporting tools.
  • Collaborate with business and scientific stakeholders to understand needs and collect actionable requirements.
  • Analyze emerging trends and technologies to provide strategic BI recommendations, including Generative AI and ML solutions.
  • Develop and implement master data management strategies to ensure data accuracy, cleanliness, and accessibility.
  • Engage with other DOE labs and private sector companies to explore capabilities.
  • Adhere to ORNL and ITSD project management requirements, software quality assurance standards, and ITIL practices.
  • Provide guidance on AI model usage within ORNL guidelines.

Additional Responsibilities may include:

  • Support data warehouse technologies beyond Microsoft and SAP.
  • Train end users on Business Intelligence tools and practices as needed.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS in computer science, data science, artificial intelligence, business analytics management, applied statistical analytics, or a related field with 8-12 years of relevant experience. Equivalent experience combinations considered.
  • Masters holders should have 7-10 years of relevant experience, and PhD holders should have 4-6 years. Equivalent experience combinations considered.
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Business Intelligence development including designing and deploying reporting solutions.
  • Experience with BI solutions using MS Power BI, SQL, and MS Azure tools.
  • Experience with Microsoft CoPilot, OpenAI tools, GPT APIs, Huggin Face, LangChain, Large Language Models, or similar technologies.
  • Strong customer focus, excellent communication skills, and effective relational client-facing skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI and data visualization.
  • Understanding of ETL frameworks, multidimensional and tabular modeling.
  • Experience with SQL Server technologies (SSMS, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code, Python, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
  • Experience with Data Science or Data Analytic tools, including low code/no code platforms.
  • Familiarity with ORNL business processes and applications, and Microsoft SharePoint technologies.
