What will be your role at DeepL? As a Data Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include building and maintaining ETL pipelines, developing foundational data layers in our data warehouse and integrating new data sources using DataOps best practices, such as documentation and testing. You will also aid other data specialists in optimizing their queries, tables, and effective data utilization. We are seeking a data-focused Data Engineer to join our team of versatile engineers who build and maintain data tables, libraries, and tools for data processing at DeepL. The customer data domain integrates various data sources, both internal and external, making them accessible to our stakeholders across the company: Developers, Product Development, Data Science, and Management. You will work within a cross-functional team consisting of product managers, data scientists, data engineers, and developers to tackle complex technical challenges. Requirements Your responsibilities - Collaborate with team members to gather business requirements, define successful outcomes, and design data models. - Develop data layers for both raw and aggregated data to enhance the capability of our platform. - Write production-quality ELT code (Python, SQL) focusing on performance and maintainability. - Create and maintain architecture and system documentation. - Manage our data catalog to support self-service and single-source-of-truth analytics efficiently. - Offer data modeling expertise to team members through code reviews, pairing, and training, enabling optimal, DRY, and scalable database designs and queries. - Improve, manage, and teach code maintainability and performance standards in submitted and reviewed code. - Support our team in maintaining and improving the infrastructure for data collection, processing, management, and analysis. - Research, design, execute, and foster new solutions and software for complex data processing problems throughout DeepL. - Work on our internal tools to make data effortlessly accessible to our internal stakeholders. About you - In-depth experience in data management, ETL pipelines, and data model design. - A strong understanding of data-centric systems. - Strong experience with high-volume SQL and SQL query optimization strategies. - Experience in building and maintaining a distributed data infrastructure operating at terabyte scale. - In addition to SQL and Python, experience in other programming languages is an advantage. - Experience with columnar DBs such as Clickhouse or Redshift is advantageous. - You are a good communicator and team player. - You are fluent in English.
