Overview

We are looking for a proactive and experienced Senior Specialist in Data Engineering and Analytics to join our team at MTN. This role is crucial for spearheading projects within our Technology Information department, driving data analytics capabilities, and ensuring high-quality data management practices.

Key Performance Areas

Data Engineering Responsibilities:

As a core part of our team, you'll:

• Implement and refine data marts according to both system and business requirements.
• Conduct sophisticated analyses using SQL scripting and other database solutions across various platforms like Oracle and Big Data.
• Design and plan database architectures and data models to bolster interoperability.
• Lead data migration projects across diverse data lakes and servers ensuring seamless transitions and systems integrity.
• Develop solutions for data-related issues and mentor junior staff, enhancing their development and integration into impactful projects.
• Document solutions and contribute to the company's knowledge base through presentations and internal trainings.
• Maintain and develop programs that fulfill project requirements including enhancements to existing systems.

Customer Relations and Business Intelligence:

Key duties include:

• Gathering and analyzing business intelligence requirements from designated business units.
• Maintaining relationships with stakeholders to understand data drivers and quality.
• Delivering regular feedback sessions with customers, enhancing BI understanding and facilitating robust analytics solutions.

Quality Management:

• Ensure consistent application of standard operating procedures with a keen focus on maintaining high data quality.
• Analyze and enhance the quality of reporting and analytics through continuous assessment and stakeholder feedback.

Advanced Analytics and Data Science:

• Apply machine learning and deep-learning algorithms to address real business challenges.
• Utilize your coding skills in SAS, Python, and SQL/NoSQL databases to bring data-driven stories to life via tools like Tableau and Power BI.

Analytical Support and Reporting:

• Interface closely with project teams, providing critical data analysis and support to meet various operational requirements.
• Support the development of test plans and ensure meticulous documentation for all processes and solutions.

Strategic and Tactical Operations:

• Develop strategic plans, undertake risk assessments, and provide operational leadership aligned with enterprise information standards and architectural frameworks.
• Drive yearly planning activities, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives and technology strategies.

Financial Management:

• Oversee and provide input on CAPEX and OPEX budgets, ensuring strategic fiscal management and optimal resource allocation.
• Collaborate with infrastructure teams to enhance efficiencies and manage licensing requirements.

Job Requirements

• Educational Background: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field. Advanced degrees (MSc or PhD) preferred.
• Professional Experience: At least 5 years in programming and analytics within the BI spectrum, ideally with leadership responsibilities and experience in a telecommunications environment.
