About the Role
Group Benefits Technology at The Hartford is in search of an energetic Staff Reliability Engineer to be a vital member of our Reliability Engineering Team. This role calls for a strong background in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and IT operations as well as proficiency in various programming languages.
What You’ll Do
- Guide best-in-class software engineering standards for instrumenting the code/application technology stack to generate metrics on technology health - availability, performance, quality, currency, and resiliency.
- Act as a liaison between the architecture and software engineering teams to influence technical strategy while considering its cross-functional impacts and integration.
- Serve as the technical expert for the applications supported, requiring in-depth knowledge in technologies, applications, integration, interfaces, and business domains.
IT Operations Responsibilities
- Ensure operational excellence by driving the triaging and service restoration of high-impact incidents to minimize service restoration time and business impact.
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams to design intelligent incident routing, enhance monitoring/alerting capabilities, and automate service restoration processes.
- Maintain continuity of Hartford and third-party assets, ensuring IT application and infrastructure metadata repositories are current.
- Govern the D&A platform ecosystem, focusing on data masking, data lifecycle management processes, and solutions.
DevSecOps Responsibilities
- Develop and implement tooling, alerts, and response mechanisms to identify and address reliability risks through automation to support problem prevention, detection, mitigation, and resolution.
- Improve delivery flow by engineering solutions to increase delivery speed while adhering to technology standards.
- Implement preventative controls and drive increased automation and self-healing capabilities, improving cost efficiency baselines.
- Promote and implement innovative solutions.
IT/Data Engineering Responsibilities
- Champion the migration of applications to open-source platforms, PaaS, and cloud technologies.
- Drive simplification across the technology stack, ensuring technical designs can be effectively operated without adding complexity.
- Encourage inner- and open-sourcing practices to accelerate self-service enterprise capabilities.
- Set up scalable SDLC environments using COTS, PaaS, and SaaS products catering to data pipeline needs.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant technical experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology Management, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to interact with diverse technical and non-technical groups in a matrix organization.
- Solid understanding of AWS, DevSecOps practices, and SAFe Agile methodologies.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python, Lambda, Go, Java, or JavaScript/Node.js.
- Familiarity with enterprise software solutions like MS Teams, ServiceNow, and Rally.
- Expertise with cloud platforms, microservices architecture, and observability tools such as Dynatrace, SPLUNK, CloudWatch, and CloudTrail.
- Hands-on experience with continuous integration and DevOps tools including GitHub, Jenkins, and Nexus.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Understanding of robotics and AI for service improvement.
- Experience in strategy development and hands-on application development and production support.
- Understanding of frameworks like Cloud Security Alliance.
- Must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship.
Compensation
The annualized base pay range for this role is $126,160 - $189,240, based on market analysis and individual performance. The Hartford’s total compensation package may also include bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
