BioPharmaceuticals Medical Evidence

BioPharmaceuticals Medical Evidence is accountable for delivering global strategic studies required to generate confidence in AstraZeneca therapies. This includes additional observational research and externally-sponsored research required by Global Product Teams.

About the Role

We are seeking an Associate Director, Real World Data Science who will report directly to the Senior Director, RWD Science. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of delivering value through leveraging routinely collected data from healthcare settings or observational studies to provide health analytics and insights in various contexts, including public health, pharmaceutical research and development, and commercial/payer segments.

The Associate Director will collaborate with colleagues in epidemiology, statistics, and health economics to shape the RWD science delivery of medical and payer evidence studies. They will support pharmacovigilance through RWD contextualization and provide methods expertise, delivering a range of RWD analyses to support the business. This role includes providing expert scientific and technical guidance on study design, data selection, and best practices in RWD utilization.

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Required:

• PhD or MS in statistics, mathematics, data science, or another advanced degree in life sciences + relevant industry experience
• Experience in real-world evidence, health economics/epidemiology, and quantitative science such as health outcome modeling
• Hands-on experience with EMR/Health IT, disease registries, and/or insurance claims databases
• Experience with clinical data standards, medical terminologies, and controlled vocabularies (ICD9/10/SNOMED)
• Experience supporting pharmacoepidemiology studies with a proven track record in statistics/machine learning/data science
• Ability to lead & manage multi-disciplinary data science projects
• Familiarity with Statistical Analysis Plan (SAP) generation and execution for observational studies
• Proficient in SQL
• Proficient in R/Python

Desirable:

• Demonstrated ability to build long-term relationships with stakeholders, understanding scientific/business challenges at a deep level and translating them into data science activities to deliver value
• Experience in advanced visualization and visual analytics of routinely collected healthcare data
• Experience with pharmacovigilance from RWD
• Experience working in a global organization and delivering global solutions
