Join our dynamic group that excels in optical modeling and metrology inference competencies.

Sector Information

Within ASML, the sector Development & Engineering is responsible for developing, specifying, and designing new ASML products. Our Business Line Applications delivers integrated solutions that combine computational, metrology, and control technologies to enhance the performance of lithography products for the semiconductor industry.

Group Mission

At D&E Applications, the Modeling and Inference Group focuses on developing optical and mathematical models and methods for inferring physical model parameters from optical metrology data. We identify, design, and implement relevant new metrics, algorithms, and measurement functions with optimum performance characteristics. The availability and development of fast and accurate optical models and Maxwell solvers, along with their optimal integration, are crucial for our success. The group ensures the application of Applied Mathematics for Parameter Estimation and the proficiency in Scatterometry ASML Competencies.

Job Description

As a Computational Physics Engineer, you will:

  • Develop electromagnetic solvers based on (spectral) Integral Equation Methods and create complex parameterized geometrical methods for Soft X-ray (SXR) Metrology.
  • Enhance the functionality of Maxwell solvers, particularly focusing on speed and accuracy, combining internal algorithmic development with application-specific approaches, possibly including machine learning methods.
  • Be responsible for developing, testing, and maintaining algorithms, and transforming general requirement definitions into functional modules.
  • Clearly communicate mathematical principles, geometric solutions, and Maxwell solver models to internal stakeholders and counterparts.
  • Contribute to ASML Competencies, propose and develop new or improved metrics and algorithms, and review technical analyses from the team.
  • Consolidate the technical team's identity in communications with other departments, contribute to technical product roadmaps, and generate intellectual property.

Keywords

Computational electromagnetics, scientific computing, periodic and non-periodic Maxwell solvers, integral equation methods, optimization techniques, inverse problems, sampling and interpolation, physical modeling, calibration, machine learning, signal processing.

Education and Skills

We are looking for candidates with:

  • A Ph.D. or M.Sc. in electrical engineering, physics, applied mathematics, or computer science.
  • Experience with HPC, Linux environments, C++11, and familiarity with Python and MATLAB programming languages.
  • Experience in developing electromagnetic algorithms, or in domains such as acoustics or electronic structure, with excellence in numerical mathematics and complex geometry optimization.
  • Knowledge of MPI or OpenMP, and a preference for experience with scalable codes and iterative solvers.
  • Good teamwork, strategic thinking, self-motivation, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • An understanding of semiconductor lithography and IC design is an advantage.
