About the role

As a Senior Principal Data Architect, you will guide the data architecture practice and be the face of Data Engineering at the organizational level. Our Data Engineering (DE) team is working on the new generation of a Data Platform that will implement Data Mesh principles and significantly improve time to value for all engineers working with data. This task requires proven expertise in big data and continuous learning and evolution. You will cultivate cross-team collaboration to define and create the enterprise data management architecture from principles to tools. Oversee the adaptation of new architecture across functions and enhance the efficiency level of engineering when working with data. Your responsibilities will include: - Defining enterprise data architecture for a data platform - Collaborating with the platform team to build platform functionality and assisting data engineers with the adoption of the platform functionality - Educating the entire team on modern data architecture topics - Shaping data lakehouse data models and transforming them into performant physical models benchmarked to specific storage formats and data tech stacks - Advancing best DE architecture practices emphasizing performance, scalability, security, enabling potential capabilities and resilience. Steering and communicating architectural decisions across the Zillow Data Ecosystem. - Forming consistent architectural practices across DE that produces standard methodologies and reference architecture that the team can leverage. - Building consensus and alignment on technical decisions, data formats, and data flows. Offering guidance to teams on new technologies and future technological investments. - Establishing alignment with product teams on technical vision and long-term product vision. - Representing the DE architecture in the Enterprise Architecture Group. This role is categorized as a remote position, which means you can work from home in any of the 50 US States, with some exceptions. For this job based in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, and Washington, the pay range is $221,800.00 - $354,200.00 annually. In addition to this, you will also be eligible for equity awards.

Who you are

You are someone who has built data platforms, successful projects related to data systems, and enterprise data systems in leading companies. You have the skill to design enterprise systems, processes that are robust and strong, and lead technical teams. You are proficient with tools such as Spark, advanced Python, unlimited SQL, and cloud thinking. You can explain intricate concepts in an uncomplicated way and partner with Zillow Enterprise Architecture (ZGEA) group. You are someone who can balance multiple contending priorities in a fast-paced environment.
