What You’ll Be Doing in This Role

As Canva scales, change remains integral to our DNA. Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll be working on, though this will likely evolve over time:

  • Partner with our leadership to develop an AI/ML strategy and roadmap to enhance the customer support experience.
  • Be accountable for delivery of primary UV opportunities, collaborating with product and engineering teams.
  • Lead the ML development of a natural language understanding/processing system that integrates into the Canva Product.
  • Collaborate with MLEs across our organization to leverage existing ML capabilities or solve cross-organization problems.

You're Probably a Match If...

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • 5+ years of industry experience in machine learning/software engineering within a Product/SaaS company.
  • Experience with high-scale Natural Language Systems.
  • Experience building and deploying ML models, with strong understanding of ML pipelines and components.
  • Strong coding skills in Python (interviews will be in Python).
  • Familiarity with TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, Langchain, and Huggingface.
  • Worked with RAG architectures and understand their applications.
  • A solid grasp of Computer Science/Engineering fundamentals including system design, data structures, architecture, and design patterns.
  • Ideally, experience in Customer Support or Business Process automation roles.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, and a history of mentoring other engineers.
  • A proven ability to set medium to long-term vision for the team in the AI space.

The Machine Learning Engineering Specialty

  • Building a highly personalized Canva.
  • Developing user modeling for product features and targeted messaging.
  • Facilitating user discovery of 100M+ templates, photos, videos, and elements.
  • Applying ML to label and transform vast numbers and varieties of images.
  • Leveraging unique data to empower user design.
