Program Technologist Position Overview

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is looking for a skilled Program Technologist to leverage their technical expertise in conducting investigations and holding companies accountable for the misuse of technology.

This CFPB position offers a chance to collaborate with other federal agencies focused on consumer protection, competition, and civil rights.

Job Responsibilities

As a Program Technologist, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and implementing complex, cross-agency strategic and investigative efforts in areas like data privacy, eliminating algorithmic bias, generative AI, data monetization, and more.
  • Collaborating with management, attorneys, economists, and examiners to detect and prevent unfair, deceptive, and abusive practices.
  • Providing advice and guidance on technical strategies to support investigations, policies, litigation, and exams.
  • Researching and reporting on new developments in software products, technologies, and industry trends.
  • Developing strategies in collaboration with various stakeholders to effectively protect consumers and support investigative and policymaking initiatives.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following qualifications:

Specialized Experience:

  • One year of specialized experience at a level equivalent to the CN-53 grade level, which is broadly equivalent to the GS-13.
  • Experience in executing or leading technology projects, utilizing data to develop solutions, and sharing views to achieve objectives.

IT-related Competencies:

  • Attention to Detail: Demonstrates thoroughness and conscientiousness in work.
  • Customer Service: Works effectively with clients and customers to meet their needs and deliver high-quality services.
  • Oral Communication: Effectively expresses ideas or facts to individuals or groups, making clear and convincing presentations.
  • Problem Solving: Identifies problems, evaluates alternatives, and makes recommendations using sound judgment.

Candidates must also complete a simulation exercise and score at or above the passing grade of 4.
