About the Role

As an , you will lead revolutionary AI-based research projects contributing to biological discoveries and developing new research tools. Your role will span from individual projects to strategic initiatives within the HHMI community. Collaboration with scientists, engineers, and technicians is a key component of this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute independent or collaborative AI-based research projects.
  • Address diverse scientific problems and innovate new methodologies.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and high-quality code repositories.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and adapt to various project needs.
  • Maintain technical leadership in AI, contributing to program-wide initiatives.
  • Adhere to high academic, scientific, and ethical standards in all activities.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related fields; or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in academia, industry, or government research.
  • Proven innovation in AI research, evidenced by publications and high-quality code contributions.
  • Experience in applying AI to interdisciplinary research, preferably in biological sciences.
  • Deep understanding of machine learning principles, including supervised, unsupervised, deep learning, and probabilistic modeling.
  • Skilled in AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch and JAX.
  • Proficient in programming languages like Python, Julia, C++, or Rust.
  • Experience with big data technologies and high-performance computing.
  • Strong data science skills in preprocessing, statistical analysis, and visualization.
  • Excellent communication and results-oriented.

Compensation

Salary ranges based on experience levels:

  • AI Scientist I: $182,160.80 - $296,011.30
  • AI Scientist II: $213,564.00 - $347,041.40
  • AI Scientist III: $245,145.60 - $450,000.00
