Job Title: Data Analyst / Engineer

Location: Bangalore, India

Role Overview

As a key player in our global team, you will collaborate in DevOps mode to empower Merck's Life Science business. Using advanced technology, you will enable better-informed decisions through leveraging data as an asset. The Life Science Data Engineering Team focuses on designing, developing, testing, and supporting automated end-to-end data pipelines and applications on our data management and analytics platform (Palantir Foundry, AWS, and other technologies).

Key Technology Skills

• Proficiency in Python and SQL
• Experience with PySpark for distributed computation
• Knowledge of databases such as Oracle, MySQL, and SQL Server
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure/tools for data engineering and data visualization
• Basic competency in HTML, CSS, TypeScript, and JavaScript
• Experience with Postgres and Elasticsearch

Responsibilities

• Participate in the entire project lifecycle from analysis to go-live operations
• Build data pipelines using PySpark and develop UI with low/no code services
• Ensure high code quality and adhere to project standards
• Interact directly with business stakeholders and product managers
• Review code and verify compliance with platform standards
• Document technical work transparently and professionally
• Balance technical feasibility with strict business requirements
• Ingest various data types into Palantir Foundry
• Support critical live applications, and resolve complex issues

Candidate Profile

Education

B.Sc, BE (or higher) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields.

Professional Experience

• 5+ years in software engineering and application development
• 3+ years in data and analytics

Required Skills

• Deep knowledge of big data, distributed file system concepts, and map-reduce principles
• Expertise in Apache Spark and building spark pipelines
• Proficiency in data engineering tasks using Python and Spark
• Experience with REST APIs and SQL database manipulation
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and data visualization tools like Tableau
• General knowledge of AWS Stack (EC2, S3, Glue, Lambda, Athena)
• Experience using Git for source code control
• Proficient in ETL/ELT processes and user authorization/authentication
• Understanding of SDLC, formalized change controls, Agile principles, and ITIL knowledge
• Fluent in English

Job Specifics

• Physical presence in Bangalore
• Flexibility to work CEST and US EST time zones
• Willingness to travel to Germany, US, and other locations as needed
