About the Role: Clinical Radiotherapy Physics Research Scientist

As a part of the Applied Innovation Program team, the Clinical Radiotherapy Physics Research Scientist will focus on fostering applied research in the field of clinical radiotherapy. This role includes offering clinical and technical expertise, providing advice, contributing to evidence generation, sharing knowledge, and engaging in scientific production within the domain of clinical medical physics.

Key Responsibilities

• Acting as a key expert in radiotherapy physics for the Radiation Oncology Medical Affairs division.
• Leading treatment planning to support various internal and external initiatives and projects, in partnership with the Treatment Planning and Technology teams.
• Serving as a clinical physics expert and advisor to other departments, including Advanced Oncology Solutions, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Marketing, and Education teams.
• Liaising with external customers to facilitate the clinical introduction of new products.
• Collaborating with Medical Science Liaison teams globally to define research projects with external investigators and participating in project review teams.
• Participating actively in experimental projects aimed at testing advanced clinical planning tools.

Requirements

• Expertise with Varian delivery and treatment planning platforms.
• Strong relationship-building skills with internal and customer partners.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional language skills are a plus.
• Ability to analyze and organize information, develop solutions, and implement plans effectively.
• Excellent presentation and follow-up skills.
• Proficiency in creating concise and accurate documentation for internal use and the scientific community.
• Self-motivated, well-organized, team-oriented, and solutions-driven.
• Ability to work well in collaborative, cross-functional scenarios.
• Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to successful completion.
• Commitment to ethical and professional standards, ensuring all activities are conducted with quality and in compliance with Varian’s values and regulatory requirements.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% globally, occasionally including weekends.

Essential Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Physics or Medical Physics, minimum MSc; PhD preferred. Equivalent degrees will be evaluated case by case.
• Board certification in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics (or equivalent) by at least one national or international organization.
• 5-10 years of proven clinical experience in radiation oncology treatment planning.
• Compliance with local and applicable regulations, including vaccine requirements for certain roles.
