Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Data Governance Engineer to join our Digital Platform Services Group within the Digital Services Infrastructure & Operations Support Division of the Information Technology Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The candidate will play a critical role in safeguarding the organization’s data by designing, implementing, enhancing, and overseeing cybersecurity solutions.

As a part of the team, you will develop and monitor security systems to prevent data breaches, define and enforce security policies, configure firewalls and intrusion detection systems, respond to security crises, and perform network maintenance. You will be pivotal in ensuring data security and compliance with relevant cybersecurity laws and frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Policy Compliance: Ensure data security compliance in day-to-day management.
  • Security Assessment: Continuously evaluate security measures for possible updates or enhancements.
  • Secure Data Transmission: Prevent unsafe data transfers and ensure confidential data protection via firewalls.
  • Software Management: Install, uninstall, and maintain data security software.
  • Forensic Analysis: Compile data for forensic analysis post-breach.
  • Security Planning: Create security plans tailored to organizational needs and threats.
  • Promote ORNL's core values: Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service.
  • Foster a respectful workplace emphasizing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS in information systems, computer science, computer engineering, information technology, business, or related fields, and 5-7 years of relevant experience. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience with Varonis and Microsoft Data Security platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Proactive learner of new technologies.
  • Self-starter with minimal supervision needed.
  • Strong attention to detail in a diverse team environment.
  • Basic professional knowledge in applying technical principles and theories.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining data security platforms.
  • 4+ years of experience with data encryption, hashing, tokenization, and database integrity tools.

Special Requirements

  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy is required. This role is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position, requiring a pre-placement drug test and ongoing random drug testing.
