The Opportunity:

Flexport is seeking a Data Scientist II with a passion for solving complex problems in fulfillment and logistics. We offer a comprehensive range of "port-to-porch" logistics solutions for ecommerce merchants. This role is pivotal in building automated decision-making processes that ensure we meet or exceed merchant expectations for fulfillment speed and reliability, while scaling our network cost-efficiently.

As a Data Scientist at Flexport, you will develop pioneering science products that make fulfillment seamless and efficient. Collaborating with cross-functional teams—including product, engineering, business, and operations—you will apply advanced Operations Research (OR) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to deliver data-driven insights and automated decision-making solutions.

Our ideal candidate is self-motivated, technically proficient in coding, and enthusiastic about delivering innovative solutions. If you are passionate about enabling accessible intelligence and actionable insights, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop models and algorithms to optimize inventory management and enhance delivery service reliability within the fulfillment network.
  • Lead projects that significantly impact business objectives by translating business needs into actionable development plans and executing them successfully.
  • Collaborate across Data Science, Engineering, Product, Planning, and Operations teams to implement production processes and reporting that achieve desired KPIs.
  • Set and promote data science and analytics best practices within the team and across the organization.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in a quantitative field such as Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or Econometrics.
  • 3+ years of industry experience in solving optimization or machine learning problems and developing automated solutions.
  • Extensive experience in developing, enhancing, and maintaining end-to-end data science production processes, including data modeling, algorithm development, testing, and metric tracking.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL. Additional experience with Snowflake, dbt, and data visualization/reporting tools (e.g., Looker) is a plus.
  • A "compliance-first" mindset to navigate our heavily regulated industry effectively.

Don’t be! Our mission is to make global commerce easy and accessible for everyone. We value diversity and believe in bringing together people from various backgrounds and experiences alongside our industry veterans to drive the logistics industry forward. To support this, we offer Flexport Academy, a one-week intensive onboarding program designed to set every new employee up for success.
