About the Role

The People Data Scientist is key to optimizing our human capital and fostering a data-driven culture in People practices at the British Council. This role will enable us to make informed decisions, create a more engaged and diverse workforce, and drive our success through effective people management.

Responsibilities include leveraging data science and statistics to drive strategic HR decisions, conducting prescriptive and predictive analysis, and supporting senior management in data-driven decision-making.

Application Process

Your supporting statement should detail your professional data science portfolio, including models, projects, data products delivered, and business outcomes. It should also include your experience in managing and presenting to business stakeholders.

The interview stage includes a presentation on a recent data science project you have completed. Successful candidates will advance to a technical round, involving a dataset analysis using the CRISP-DM process and various unsupervised learning techniques and dimensionality reduction methods, to be completed in Python or R.

Main Responsibilities

Analysis and Problem Solving

• Conduct statistical analyses and develop modeling for workforce forecasting and scenario planning.
• Automate processes to reduce manual effort and increase analysis depth.
• Correlate employee engagement with retention, productivity, and experience metrics.
• Translate complex data into clear, actionable recommendations.
• Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in data science.
• Lead analytical projects and offer support for broader British Council data projects.
• Maintain data pipelines for key datasets.
• Ensure high programming and analytical standards through code review.
• Experiment with new datasets and techniques to meet evolving evidence needs.
• Engage with data science colleagues to summarize internal work and contribute to the learning culture.

Relationship and Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate with People function business partners and leaders to deliver timely insights.
• Support regions and countries in understanding and utilizing people data science outputs.

Minimum/Essential Requirements

• Proficiency in Python (or similar) for data tasks.
• Experience in various analytical skills and techniques.
• Enthusiasm for learning and using advanced data science techniques.
• Experience integrating data from multiple sources to solve complex problems.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Well-developed project and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience in collaborative code development using version control.
• Interest and experience in using Natural Language Processing techniques.
• Commitment to continuous learning and development.

Language Requirements

Written and verbal proficiency in English is required, as British Council systems and global processes operate in English.

Education and Qualifications

An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in data science, statistics, data engineering, or computer science is required.
