Engineer for Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT)

Salary £45-£60k based on experience

Who are you?

As an AIT Test Engineer, you should have knowledge and experience in developing test procedures for subsystem and system level tests and implementing various tests. You should be accustomed to various test equipment and have at least a Level 6 qualification (bachelor's degree, apprenticeship degree, NVQ level 6, or equivalent) in a related scientific or engineering discipline.

You should possess experience in most of the following areas:

• A comprehensive understanding of small satellite programs, ideally throughout the entire project life cycle;
• Technical delivery of intricate systems, software and/or electronic hardware;
• Spacecraft AIT and/or operations;
• Implementation of space technology and/or space mission studies or R&D projects;
• Experience in and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams;
• Engagement with external clients;
• Reporting project updates to internal stakeholders;
• Collaborating with suppliers;
• Adherence to procedures;
• Knowledge of Space Standards (i.e., ECSS);
• Technical pre-sales support during bidding activities;

What will your duties be?

This is an stimulating role that will suit an energetic, self-motivated individual who enjoys working on a variety of tasks supporting the testing of spacecraft and spacecraft equipment. The successful candidate will be eager to learn diverse skills, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and take pride in their work while maintaining high standards of professionalism and possessing strong problem-solving skills.

Although the primary responsibilities lie in spacecraft testing, the role will involve elements of design work and might require some bid support and other reasonable responsibilities as required by the business. You will be actively encouraged to stay updated on space industry developments and to identify business/technology promotion possibilities.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Collaborating with project teams to support mission/service delivery;
• Generating test and verification plans for various stages of development;
• Planning and conducting functional, electrical, mechanical, and environmental tests at subsystem and spacecraft levels;
• Verification of subsystem and full spacecraft;
• Collaboration with project managers to contribute to schedules, risk management plans, budget management, and other project artifacts as needed;
• Support spacecraft operations.
• Acceptance of spacecraft hardware (platform and payload);
• Definition and assembly of test systems;
• Managing the availability of test equipment (MGSE/EGSE) between different projects.

About In-Space Missions

In-Space Missions (ISM) is a UK-based company that designs, builds and operates space missions for global customers. Our service also includes 'Space as a Service', where we transport customer payloads on our spacecraft and let customers upload digital apps to operate on our hardware. ISM was established in 2015 and now has about 90 employees. In 2021, BAE Systems acquired ISM, but we continue to operate as a separate business from our base and satellite cleanrooms in Alton, Hampshire, UK.
