Enterprise Business Intelligence Specialist Opportunity at NAIC

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is seeking a skilled Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist to join our dynamic team. This full-time, hybrid-position offers an excellent opportunity to take on a pivotal role in our organization by providing technical expertise and mentorship to BI analysts. Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to BI analysts.
• Assist in designing, developing, and optimizing BI solutions, including data pipelines, dashboards, and reports.
• Stay current with industry trends, tools, and best practices related to BI and data analytics.
• Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance the data visualization skills of federated BI teams.
• Promote best practices in data visualization and BI tool usage across the organization.
• Collaborate with IT and data governance teams to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
• Lead initiatives to engage the organization in data community events, such as hackathons, data talks, and forums.
• Manage and facilitate significant analytic initiatives supporting strategic projects.
• Design and document processes for business intelligence or reports, dashboards, change requests, projects, or other outputs.
• Maintain a library of model documents, templates, and other reusable knowledge.
• Provide customized dashboards as requested by management using SQL or BI tools.
• Summarize data in business and financial terms for management, executives, vendors, and Members.
• Apply best practices in testing and reporting: usability, data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation.
• Provide Approvals/Denials for Finance of key company data.
• Research and document potential data integrity issues using SQL querying or Business Intelligence tools.

Skills and Abilities

• Proficiency in data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of SQL and understanding of data warehousing and ETL processes.
• Ability to interpret complex data sets and translate them into clear, insightful visualizations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain data concepts to non-technical stakeholders and conduct training sessions.
• Experience in training or mentoring colleagues in data visualization techniques.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with various teams within the organization.
• Sound problem-solving skills for troubleshooting and resolving data visualization and analytics issues.
• Passion for creating and nurturing a data-centric community.
• Up-to-date with the latest trends, tools, and best practices in BI and data visualization.
• Displays teamwork and a positive attitude.
• Strong leadership skills.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent from a four-year college or university.
• Three years of related work experience in the essential functions of this position or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of Information Systems experience.
• 5+ years of experience with Business Intelligence concepts and tools.
• 5+ years of RDBMS experience with a good understanding of ACID principles.
• 2+ years of NoSQL experience.
• 2+ years of experience with Tableau.
• Experience deploying dashboards to AWS.
• Experience with Insurance and Insurance Regulation data preferred.

Compensation

Starting at $79,509 up to $102,568
