NextEra Energy Transmission, LLC (NEET), a pioneer in the energy sector, is seeking a dedicated Geospatial Data Scientist to join our ambitious Transmission Fundamentals team. This role is centered around pioneering greenfield transmission solutions and enhancing our capabilities across the U.S. and Canada.

Position Specific Description

The Geospatial Data Scientist will play a crucial role in developing ground-breaking datasets and performing extensive geospatial analyses. Leveraging programmatic tools, you will also produce maps and collaborate with power modelers to uncover latent opportunities within the bulk power transmission system. Your expertise in geospatial and time-series data, along with algorithm development and data visualization, will drive our mission forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate novel datasets and tools for geospatial analysis to help design and evaluate new transmission opportunities.
  • Manipulate and synchronize various datasets to aid in automated analyses.
  • Work closely with both internal and external Subject Matter Experts to devise cost-effective and innovative transmission solutions.
  • Anticipate traveling between 10% - 25% to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Additional duties as assigned related to the project’s needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Robust experience in geospatial data analysis and modeling.
  • Proficient in Python and familiar with Git.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders to deliver comprehensive transmission analyses.

Desired Qualifications

  • A solid educational background in environmental science, renewable energy, power systems, or transmission planning.
  • Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) and/or cloud computing platforms like AWS.
  • A strong foundation in machine learning techniques.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement machine learning, optimization, and other modeling solutions to support business operations.
  • Provide well-documented analyses, technical reports, and quantitative assessments.
  • Engage with a variety of data types on platforms designed for distributing computing.
  • Contribute to software development in R, Python, or similar languages within project teams.

Candidate Requirements

Prospective candidates should hold a Bachelor’s Degree with at least two years of pertinent experience. Advanced degrees such as a Master’s or Doctoral Degree are preferred.
