Job Description Graduate Programme 2024 | Graduate Programme 2024 Vector is excited to invite expressions of interest for its Graduate Programme 2024 intake. With positions available in key business areas such as Finance, Climate Change and VTS (Vector Technology Solutions), graduates can look forward to gaining exposure to multiple teams, functions and projects within their chosen business area over the course of the programme. Climate Change Data Scientist If you’re looking for meaningful work, you’ve come to the right place. Energise your career with Vector and enjoy the sort of job satisfaction you get from knowing that your work is at the forefront of innovation and fundamentally doing good not just across Auckland but New Zealand as well. As the effects of climate change become increasingly pronounced, this graduate pathway will analyse climate change data and overlay this with the Vector network to determine risks such as flooding, drought and fire. You’ll play a central role in Vector’s ability to prepare itself for increasingly frequent extreme weather events, and help inform wider public policy and regulations. Due to the cutting-edge nature of this role, you’ll need to be prepared to learn significantly on the job, and have natural leadership skills. You’ll collaborate with the likes of NIWA, the University of Auckland and Climsystems, as well as stakeholders across the Vector organisation, so you can look forward to building a robust network in this field. There is also the opportunity for transitioning this role into a PhD for those interested. As this is uncharted territory, you’ll need to be up for the challenge: keen to grow yourself as a thought leader for something that will have a positive impact on millions of lives and as a pioneer for an industry in transformation, and with a passion for driving forward the decarbonisation of the energy sector. Who we are looking for: You might be studying computer science, mathematics with a data science focus, or engineering with a solid programming capability. Post-grad applications are very welcome. You are well-versed in data and code (Python is ideal), and you thrive when faced with the challenge of learning something hard, quickly. You’re excited by the unknown, with the ability to self-learn, and are comfortable communicating, presenting, and collaborating with people from around the business. Knowledge and experience in climate-science, GIS, electricity networks, and back-end programming is valuable but not required. We can support your development in these areas. You’ll be driven by the opportunity to play a key role in preparing Auckland and New Zealand to adapt to the effects of climate change. What we can offer you You will be part of the sustainability team, focusing on the management of the decarbonisation and climate change adaptation strategies. You will report to and be mentored by the GM Sustainability, who is an energy systems engineer by background, with expertise in data science and climate change. Ultimately, Vector as an organisation is guided by our principles which aim to create a new energy future, which you will be part of. Beyond this, we also offer: A fun, flexible and stimulating work environment, full of interesting work being done by smart and innovative people. Flexibility, including the option of working from home a few days a week, and flexible start and finish times so you can balance work and life. Support for health and wellbeing.
