Head of AI/ML - South San Francisco or Boston

Frontier Medicines is looking for a highly driven individual to lead and expand the AI/ML team. Frontier utilizes data and AI as a key component of our value creation strategy, powered by exclusive data from our R&D labs and specifically our mass spectrometry driven chemoproteomics platform; machine learning impacts everything we do. Focused on developing unique insights and creating algorithms for specific problems as well as more sophisticated AI systems in the medicinal chemistry & chemoproteomics field, the successful applicant will have a significant opportunity to shape Frontier’s platform's next evolution. As a senior leader and department head in a comprehensive integrated R&D drug discovery company with every discipline under one roof, the Head of AI/ML and Cheminformatics will influence strategy and vision alongside other leaders moving forward. This is a thrilling opportunity at our Boston or South San Francisco site to employ AI/ML to make a difference for patients suffering from debilitating diseases by working in a highly collaborative and dynamic team in a startup environment with short lines of communication across functions and departments. Requirements: - Guide strategic leadership for the development of AI/ML capabilities and AI driven platform elements. - Design and steer development of novel algorithms impacting existing R&D drug discovery processes as well as inventing new capabilities. - Supervise the end to end implementation of AI/ML algorithms into software products in collaboration. - Design and construct cheminformatics and machine learning-based workflows to guide small molecule research activities. - Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field of machine learning, advanced analytics and cheminformatics, and steer the adoption of promising approaches. What we are looking for: - MS or PhD in a Computational Science (computer science, cheminformatics, computational chemistry, chemical engineering, bioinformatics, computational biology or related discipline) - 5-10 years of experience in the tech or biotech industry - Experience delivering AI/ML powered solutions as a team leader - Expert level experience with Python and other scripting/programming and analytics languages (Scala, Java, R or similar) - Experience with ML/DL/Reinforcement learning, neural network architecture including CNN, RNN, GCNN, GAN including hyperparameter optimization techniques. - Comfortable with common software development practices such as version control, containerization, unit testing, and cloud computing environments. AWS experience is a plus. - Experience with medicinal chemistry concepts, drug likeness and cheminformatics techniques such as molecular fingerprints is preferred. - Excellent writing and verbal skills are required. - Legally authorized to work in the US. The salary range for this role is between $250,000 – $300,000. The compensation for this role will depend on several factors, including the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.
