About Our Enterprise Data Office (EDO)

Our Enterprise Data Office (EDO) at AstraZeneca is a central IT function responsible for enterprise data strategy and standards. Working closely with data delivery teams across Business Technology Group (BTG) IT teams and data governance teams in the SET Area Data Offices (SEDO), we support the development of AstraZeneca's data products including Data Mesh, analytical solutions, and enterprise information architectures.

Global Enterprise Information Architecture Practice

The Enterprise Information Architecture (EIA) Practice within the EDO specializes in Enterprise Information Architecture, Data Modelling, and Data Analysis. We design key data aspects for AstraZeneca's global operations, focusing on ingestion, extraction, processing, transformation, transport, storage, and representation of knowledge. Our goal is to establish enterprise-level, cross-organizational information architecture, including the definition and delivery of Data Products and alignment with Data Mesh and Data Platforms.

Role: Information Architect – Master and Reference Data Management

We are excited to announce a new role within our EDO IT function of EIA. This role focuses on defining and governing enterprise Master and Reference Data Management architectures, strategies, models, and consolidating practices across various business units and projects. Additionally, the role supports the definition of enterprise Data Strategies, which may include data innovation, governance policies, standards, and procedures in a Data Mesh architecture.

Key Accountabilities

• Delivering strategic and tactical architectural thinking across information and data architectures, master and reference data management, and data governances.
• Working within the Enterprise Data Architecture Framework to manage and benchmark projects against leading practices and models.
• Partnering with AstraZeneca business functions to contribute to the overall Enterprise Data Strategy.
• Evangelizing architecture and technology, defining architecture roadmaps, and maintaining alignment.
• Developing and performing architecture and technology education.
• Ensuring Architectural Governance across disciplines and progressing work to governance forums and councils.
• Selecting or defining correct architectures for various business use cases, including traditional reporting and data science.
• Supporting Data Integration architecture and project designs.
• Gaining approval for IA artifacts and enforcing standard enterprise data practices.

Education, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Essential

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or Data Management.
• Experience in delivering enterprise data platform and master data management architectures.
• Proficiency in conceptual and logical data modeling technologies.
• Experience with information and data regulatory governances.
• Blend of data/information architecture, analysis, and engineering skills.
• Knowledge of industry IT architectural patterns and methodologies.
• Understanding of Data Platforms and cloud-based containerization strategies.
• Familiarity with appropriate data structures based on business use cases.

Desirable

• Experience in a data architect role with implemented blueprints.
• Experience in Agile data definition scrums.
• Familiarity with metadata cataloguing tools, data modeling tools, and EA tools.
• Understanding or familiarity with Data Mesh approaches.
