Join Our Team as an Intern Data Scientist for EAGLE-1 Payload Operation Center at SES

Role Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join an interdisciplinary team within a fast-paced and innovative global organization in the unique domain of space technologies. In collaboration with ESA and a consortium of industry leaders, we’re embarking on the EAGLE-1 project. This project aims to securely connect European countries by designing, developing, and validating in-orbit technologies for space-based quantum key distribution (QKD) using the EAGLE-1 satellite. As an integral part of the Eagle-1 Payload Operation Center (POC) team, you will contribute to planning and scheduling the optical quantum-key satellite distribution, providing valuable insights into the future of Quantum Communication Infrastructures (QCIs).

This role offers a unique chance to enhance your knowledge of the telecommunications and space industries while developing in-depth business and technical skills.

Your Responsibilities

You will:

  • Analyze the business case and pinpoint the optimal algorithm for operation planning using advanced data science technologies.
  • Develop a proof of concept utilizing Java and commercial off-the-shelf libraries such as OptaPlanner.

Your Profile

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced studies at Bachelor’s or Master’s level in ICT or a relevant technical field.
  • Strong academic background in Data Science, Operations Research, or Machine Learning.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and judgment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Effective communication skills at all levels.
  • Fluency in English and possession of EU27 nationality or a work permit for Luxembourg.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Programming expertise in languages such as Java, Python, and others.
  • Experience with version control systems and IDE tools like Visual Studio Code.
  • Understanding of satellite communication, satellite orbits, and satellite ground stations.
  • Proficiency in additional languages is an asset.
