Lead Data Engineer

Mine Tech Services (MTS) is a rapidly expanding mining consultancy based in the UK and Ukraine. Our diverse team, made up of engineers, data scientists, and developers, takes pride in our work to sustainably address the crucial challenges facing the world's commodity production. We are in search of a Lead Data Engineer to supervise our team in Lviv. The successful candidate will have an extensive experience working with BI platforms, Microsoft SQL Server, Azure Data Platform, and GDP. The individual's business application knowledge will be developed through training and mentoring. It's important to note that this role is office-based, requiring a minimum of 3 days a week spent in our Lviv office. This is a rare opportunity to assume control of the department, guiding the business with your technical skills and a commitment to solution-oriented approaches. The responsibilities will include: - Developing high-quality database solutions (primarily within MS SQL Server). - Developing, implementing, and optimising stored procedures, functions, and ETL processes. - Analysing and improving existing SQL-based solutions for performance enhancements. - Using Google BigQuery for processing and analysing large datasets, optimising queries for performance. - Expertise in constructing data transformation pipelines using DBT. - Developing procedures and scripts for data transformation and migration. - Architectural and strategic planning for future development. - Scoping new technical briefs and providing informative solutions for stakeholders. - Providing technical stewardship on projects: managing engineering scopes, testing documentation, and collaborating with the Project Manager in overseeing the work breakdown scheme in Jira as needed. Requirements: Technical Skills & Knowledge: - 3+ years of experience with DWBI/ETL - Experience with SQL Server and creation of Stored Procedures / Functions (T-SQL) - Deep understanding of SQL performance tuning and server administration - Google BigQuery experience (Experience with DBT is beneficial) - Understanding of Azure Delta Lake - Knowledge of data structure requirements for Business Intelligence reporting including Tableau and Microsoft Power BI. - Excellent attention to detail and the ability to communicate and present complex technical information to a variety of stakeholders. - Experience with Jira or similar project management tools. Personal Skills & Knowledge: - Individual who is very technology-focused with a strong interest in using systems and data to solve operational issues. - Knowledge of the mining industry, or a motivation to learn and act as a partner to our clients. - Interest in discovering innovative yet practical solutions to complex challenges. - Interest in working in a dynamic environment that combines technology, software, and large mining equipment. - Excellent communication skills - both written and verbally in English (B2) - Good listening skills (as the role has a consultancy element). - Willingness to travel periodically if possible (globally and sometimes to remote locations).
