Position Overview

Your role will involve performing conventional, automated, and molecular infectious disease testing methods. You'll adhere to infection control practices and established quality assurance standards, ensuring procedures are conducted accurately.

Responsibilities include:

• Conducting tests within your assigned section using computerized and manual methodologies.
• Consulting with technical supervisors and pathologists regarding atypical results.
• Reporting clinical data accurately and efficiently to ensure timely patient care.
• Performing statistical analysis relevant to analytical methodologies in use.
• Instructing and guiding students and staff as required.
• Preparing blood samples and body fluids for analysis, ensuring sample and patient identity accuracy.
• Using quality control methods to determine the acceptability of results and performing corrective actions as needed.
• Maintaining and performing minor repairs on analytical equipment in your assigned section.
• Meeting established turnaround times during routine and peak workflow, prioritizing tasks effectively.
• Performing additional duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

Bachelor's degree in a science-related field or HEW certification as a medical technologist (in lieu of a BS degree). Completion of a laboratory training program, with ASCP certification preferred.

Experience:

Previous clinical laboratory employment required.

Knowledge and Skills:

Familiarity with personal computers and ability to interpret various instructions provided in different formats.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Frequent Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, walking, carrying objects, push/pull, twisting, bending, reaching forward and overhead, wrist position deviation, and pinching/fine motor activities.

Occasional Physical Demands: Climbing (stairs or ladders), squatting/kneeling/crawling, taste or smell.

Continuous Physical Demands: Keyboard use/repetitive motion, talking, hearing.

Lifting: Up to 20 lbs from floor to waist and from waist level and above.

Sensory Requirements: Very accurate 20/40 near vision, accurate far vision, color discrimination, moderate depth perception, accurate hearing.

Anticipated Occupational Exposure Risks: Bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and airborne communicable diseases.
