About This Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow specializing in data analytics, modelling, machine learning, and process control to join our team. The position focuses on delivering practical, data-driven solutions to the mineral processing industry, including soft sensor development, dynamic modelling of equipment, control strategy development, and data analysis. Candidates must demonstrate excellent technical computing skills and relevant sector experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research: Maintain and develop expertise in data analytics, process control, and modelling for mineral processing. Prepare research reports, publish high-quality research outputs, participate in competitive funding applications, and develop new dynamic models and soft sensors.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, lead and develop team performance, and manage research support staff.
  • Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate UQ values, support academic positions and unit operations, contribute to internal and external service roles, and develop relationships with industry and government.
  • Compliance: Adhere to UQ’s Code of Conduct and legislative requirements related to occupational health and safety, sustainable practices, and the Education Services for Overseas Students Act.

About You

We seek candidates with the following qualifications and experience:

  • Completion or near completion of a PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • An emerging research profile with publications in reputable journals.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++.
  • Experience developing data analytics workflows and machine learning models.
  • Experience in the mineral processing sector and practical application of process control systems.

This full-time (100%) fixed-term position, up to 2 years at Academic Level A, offers a competitive salary range of $77,324.85 - $102,945.12 and a generous super allowance of up to 17%.
