Job Description

The Head of Research is a senior individual contributor role at Cobalt, delivering technical security direction and thought leadership to multiple cross-functional teams, including Delivery, Product, and various customer-facing groups. This role holds significant external responsibilities, both as a spokesperson and in key customer engagements.

This individual provides technical security oversight for delivery quality initiatives at Cobalt, focusing on the evolution of different testing methodologies and frameworks. The role also involves collaborating with product management teams, contributing experienced practitioner insights. Additionally, the person will engage with customer-facing teams to discuss technical security topics, enhancing Cobalt's thought leadership.

The Head of Research will participate in industry projects and initiatives, providing enablement to Cobalt staff to elevate technical security knowledge across all teams. Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, who oversees the CISO, IT, Delivery, and the Cobalt Community, this position collaborates closely with key stakeholders, especially the Head of Product.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical direction and content development for pentesting methodologies.
  • Offer technical security informed insights and recommendations to product teams for workflow development and in-platform content.
  • Join go-to-market teams in customer and prospect-facing initiatives to win new business, enhance customer loyalty, and gather valuable market insights for research.
  • Represent Cobalt in industry projects and initiatives, including speaking engagements, PR, blogs, and podcasts.
  • Deliver technical security training to Cobalt staff, developing custom content for various functions.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on pentesting experience, including web app, API, mobile, and network testing.
  • 10+ years of experience in offensive security or a related technical security field.
  • Confident and magnetic presence when presenting and engaging with customers, prospects, and industry stakeholders. Must be an exceptional written and verbal communicator capable of adapting messages for varied audiences.
  • Experience creating and delivering content in various formats.
  • Ability to think strategically with a strong grasp of technical and business details in pentesting and Offensive Security domains.
  • Ambitious visionary, excited about pioneering industry advancements and making a positive impact on the PtaaS community.
  • Resilience and self-starting mentality, motivated and disciplined to produce excellent work with minimal supervision.

Compensation

Cobalt is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $183,200 - $229,000 per year, plus equity and benefits. A candidate’s salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. The salary range may vary in other states and may be influenced by proximity to major metropolitan areas.
