Job Summary

The Institute for Integrative & Innovative Research (I3R) at the University of Arkansas seeks a Research Engineer in Mechatronics and Robotics. The successful candidate will lead and contribute to cutting-edge research and technology development in a collaborative and inclusive environment. This role combines technical expertise, creativity, and collaborative skills to advance projects in control system and software design, development, and testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test control systems and software for various projects.
  • Develop functional architecture and strategy aligned with the University’s enterprise architecture and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to translate theoretical models into practical applications.
  • Document and present development processes and outputs to stakeholders.
  • Continuously update technical knowledge and skills in line with emerging technologies.
  • Maintain regular attendance and foster collegial, harmonious working relationships.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Expertise in Mechatronics, Robotics, Control Systems, Computer Vision, Computer Engineering, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in Python, C, C++, and experience with microcontrollers.
  • Experience in software development for robotic control, especially for AI/ML algorithms or data processing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in AI/ML applications development and programming logic controllers.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems development and real-time operating systems (RTOS).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in Python and C/C++.
  • Knowledge of machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Understanding of hardware-software co-design and integration.
  • Familiarity with mechanical hardware design software like SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
