Role Overview

As a Research Scientist Intern, your role will involve tackling complex psychoacoustic challenges. You will conduct pivotal research that intersects both basic and applied sciences to push forward our technology and elevate the audio experience in AR/VR systems. This role is perfect for candidates who are passionate about audio perception and are ready to influence the future of AR/VR audio through innovative research.

Key Responsibilities

• Research and develop new audio technologies and acoustic systems, focusing on their impact on perceived audio quality.
• Design and execute perceptual audio evaluation studies.
• Create experimental and modeling approaches to assess audio quality, including factors like distortion, spatial attributes, and perceptual artifacts.
• Utilize existing knowledge of human sensory encoding and audio quality metrics to contribute to the engineering of new technologies.
• Communicate findings from various experiments to set target requirements for AR/VR acoustic systems.

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently obtaining or already hold a PhD in Hearing Science, Acoustics, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of experience using MATLAB, Python, or similar tools for analysis and stimulus presentation.
• Strong background in experimental methodology, psychophysics, and statistical analysis.
• Detailed knowledge of the human auditory system and its application to novel audio perceptual contexts.
• Must obtain and maintain work authorization in the country of employment during employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with high-impact research in audio quality or perception.
• Proficiency with MATLAB, R, Python, and C++.
• Experience in conducting user studies related to psychoacoustics or perceptual audio evaluation.
• Familiarity with VR, MR, AR platforms.
• Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work across diverse groups and cultures.

Internship Duration and Benefits

Meta offers flexible internship durations ranging from 12 to 24 weeks. Interns are encouraged to publish papers based on their research outcomes. Successful candidates will be offered a competitive monthly salary ranging from $7,313 to $11,333, plus additional benefits including health insurance, paid leave, and more.
