At Meta Reality Labs Research, formerly known as Facebook Reality Labs Research, we are on a quest to transform future technologies through innovative solutions in augmented and virtual reality. We are excited to announce an opening for a full-time AI Research Scientist within our Sensors and Systems Research (SSR) group.

Role Overview

The AI Research Scientist will be pivotal in pioneering, developing, and prototyping cutting-edge algorithms for intelligent sensing systems. We are seeking individuals with a robust background in efficient computer vision (CV) and machine learning (ML) algorithms. Expertise in software/hardware co-design for distributed ML, multi-modal learning, self-supervised learning, and privacy-preserving ML applications are highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop state-of-the-art CV and ML solutions for intelligent sensing applications.
  • Prototype novel ML/CV approaches focusing on distributed ML, efficient inference and learning, and privacy perseverance.
  • Engage in groundbreaking research and prototype development with AR/VR systems.
  • Collaborate with a cross-disciplinary team to drive innovation in human-oriented sensing and computing solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, with degree completion prior to joining.
  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with frameworks like PyTorch.
  • Experience in deploying algorithms into energy-efficient sensing systems.
  • Demonstrated capability to develop scalable machine learning models.
  • Legal work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience in transitioning ML applications from research to production settings.
  • Demonstrated achievements as evidenced by grants, patents, or publications in top-tier venues.
  • Experience in solving complex problems and making informed decisions.
  • Strong communication skills and experience in a cross-functional team setting.
  • Notable research or software engineering contributions via internships, work experience, or contributions to open source platforms.

Compensation and Benefits

The appointed AI Research Scientist will have a base salary ranging from $117,000 to $173,000 per year, plus potential bonuses, equity, and comprehensive benefits.
