Position: Senior Data Science Consultant - Responsible AI (P3867)

Summary

As a Senior Data Science Consultant, you will join a collaborative community of analysts, data scientists, and software engineers driving business value using rich first-party data. The AI Enablement Team is looking for a candidate experienced in applied data science and passionate about integrating ethical practices into data science and research. You'll operate in a dynamic environment focused on Responsible AI and Science.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be expected to:

• Advocate and drive adoption of responsible AI and data science practices, including data privacy and algorithm fairness, through thought leadership, consulting, and governance.
• Highlight and mitigate implicit biases affecting data quality, safeguard consumer trust, and protect Kroger’s brand reputation.
• Consult with cross-functional teams on the appropriate applications of Responsible AI.
• Stay abreast of industry trends and collaborate with academic and industry partners to maintain best practices.
• Serve as a subject matter expert within the Responsible AI committee to address algorithm and data ethics needs.
• Partner with data governance, business teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of responsible AI and Science Review standards.
• Test governance tools from a user experience perspective, blending data science with Responsible AI audit needs.
• Develop or advise on in-line controls for emerging AI and science development patterns.
• Support training, documentation, and implementation of centralized Responsible AI and Science Review processes.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, economics, or similar discipline; cross-disciplinary experience is a plus.
• 2+ years of experience extracting insights from large databases and presenting findings to clients or stakeholders.
• 2+ years of experience with advanced algorithms, programming languages, or technologies for technical analytics solutions.
• 2+ years of experience in tech consulting, retail, or related professional services.
• Hands-on experience with Python, R, or similar statistical software.
• Experience with data wrangling, data cleaning, and dimensionality reduction.
• Experience with Big Data tools and architecture.
• Knowledge of AI/ML tools and applications for business solutions.
• Ability to identify and mitigate risks tied to AI/ML use cases.
• Excellent communication skills, especially on technical topics with senior leadership.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Proficiency in data visualization and ability to present technical solutions to non-technical audiences.
• Business acumen in grocery and/or retail is a plus.
• Passion for data, analysis, and insights.
• Natural curiosity, openness to change, and willingness to innovate and learn from failure.
• Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative environment.
