Are you inspired by invention? Is problem solving through teamwork part of your DNA? Do you like the idea of seeing how your work impacts the bigger picture? If you answered yes to these questions, then you'll fit right in here at Amazon Robotics. We are a team of dedicated individuals who work passionately to apply innovative advances in robotics and software to solve real-world challenges that will transform our customers' experiences in ways not yet imaginable. We bring about new innovations every day. We are Amazon Robotics and we provide you with the required tools and support to innovate with us in ways that are rewarding, fulfilling, and fun. The Systems Architecture team at Amazon Robotics collaborates across departments to balance technical priorities and business needs, simplifies and ensures the accuracy of system design, and enables efficient integration of subsystems across variable domains. Our team focuses on designing new concepts and programs for complex systems that involve integrated development and tightly integrated integration across disciplines, significant safety requirements, lengthy hardware lead times or architectural constraints that limit quick design iterations. We adapt traditional systems engineering tools and best practices at Amazon's development and evaluation speed. We employ multidisciplinary analyses, integrated modeling, and systems engineering frameworks to simultaneously increase performance and robustness while reducing cost, timeline, and the number of iterations required to deliver value to the customer. Amazon Robotics is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer or Architect to join a dynamic team that leads systems conception for the development, architecture, and design of robotics systems and industrial equipment. In this role, you will: - Define, expand, and explore the design space for complex, multidisciplinary robotics and automation problems. - Identify and analyze the cross-functional tradeoffs between design alternatives, including the impact on performance, schedule, cost, risk, complexity, and scale. - Disassemble and frame problems using CONOPS, use cases, structural/functional decompositions, and other system representations to clarify needs and align technical teams. - Identify design choices to ensure our products are safe, reliable, and usable, and can be deployed and supported on an Amazon scale. - Build quantitative models and analyses (Excel, MATLAB, Python, internal tools) to conduct trade studies, refine requirements, and understand key system drivers across the integrated system of systems. - Perform technical risk assessments (such as TRL, Gap Analysis, FMEDA, HARA, etc.), devise mitigation plans, and create system test strategies. - Develop and communicate system integration and evaluation strategies and plans in support of program learning, technical risk reduction, verification, and validation. - Drive and prioritize execution of system test campaigns that span lab and field testing environments in collaboration with subsystem development and test teams (test readiness reviews, test execution, post-test analysis, and reporting). - Mentor junior engineers in systems engineering best practices, and participate in the hiring of new team members. We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of these locations: North Reading, MA, USA | Westborough, MA, USA Basic Qualifications: - Experience with eliciting and clarifying business and end-user needs, and connecting those needs to system concepts, requirements, and designs. - Experience leading technical collaborations and creating alignment across diverse groups (e.g., technical disciplines, subsystem teams, development partners). - Experience identifying and analyzing dependencies, trade-offs, and sensitivities across multidisciplinary systems. - Understanding of systems engineering tools and best practices, and the ability to tailor the processes to help new product development teams go quickly. - Experience developing test strategies and plans for complex hardware/software systems or system of systems. - BS or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, Physics, or another STEM discipline. - 7+ years of experience. Preferred Qualifications: - Experience developing and supporting hardware/software systems across the product lifecycle. - Experience developing structured systems engineering artifacts (e.g., requirements, test cases, etc.) using requirements management tools (e.g., Jama, DOORS, Helix). - Experience with developing safety-critical systems and supporting related regulatory compliance needs. - Experience in one or more relevant domains: Industrial Automation, Robotic Vehicles/Manipulation, Automotive, Medical Devices, Enterprise and/or Embedded Software, Autonomy, Perception and Controls, Human-Centered Design. - 9+ years of experience in system design.
